Virginia seniors who are turning 65 should carefully shop for Medicare insurance. That’s the advice of the American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance (AAMSI). The organization just reported costs for Virginia cities.
“In Norfolk a woman could pay as little as $92 or as much as $215 for basically identical coverage,” shares Jesse Slome, director of the Association. “In Virginia not only do rates for this important insurance vary but added fees vary. So do discounts for two-person households, from a low of five percent to as high as 14 percent.”
The Association’s just-released 2020 Medicare Supplement Price Index reports the lowest and highest insurance rates for Plan G. “Plan G is the most popular choice among seniors turning 65,” Slome explains. “We conduct the survey to educate more consumers about the importance of comparing options. You might be making a decision that you cannot easily change down the road.”
