Do You Need To Be An AARP Member?

No.

AARP Medicare plans are administered by UnitedHealthcare (UHC), the largest managed care insurance company in the country.

Plans are sold by a variety of insurance agents and brokers who are appointed to represent UnitedHealthcare plans.  Some agents only will offer UHC plans.  Some can do both Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement (Medigap) options.

In 2018, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) approved a list of new supplemental benefits that could be included as part of a Medicare Advantage plan.  UnitedHealthcare was one of the first insurers to add these new benefits to their Medicare Advantage plans.
