A female turning age 65 in New York State has numerous options for her Medicare insurance. According to the 2020 Medicare Supplement Insurance Price Index if she lives in Manhattan she potentially could pay $2,500 more for virtually identical coverage.
The analysis of 2020 Medigap pricing was released today by the American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance (AAMSI).
“New Yorkers are not aware of that there can be huge differences between the lowest and the highest cost for the same Medicare insurance plan,” shares Jesse Slome, AAMSI’s director. The organization compiled rates for Medigap Plan G rates for metropolitan areas.
“Almost everywhere the lowest rate was at least half of the highest,” Slome notes. “In some markets the highest rate was nearly four times higher.” The Association’s mid-year price analysis examined Plan G plan costs.
